Senior Systems Engineer


The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for advanced level administration, support and design. The scope of responsibility includes software and hardware installation, maintenance, project coordination, performance control and complex system design for credit union technology systems. This job requires extensive knowledge and experience including but not limited to Microsoft server platforms (on premise and cloud), VMWare ESXi, Citrix XenApp, XenDesktops, Backup systems and Storage Area Network (SAN). Intermediate level with Red Hat Operating Systems is desired. Expert level experience includes installing, configuring and providing ongoing support of clustered and non-clustered Microsoft server platforms and desktop technologies as well as intermediate level Red Hat Linux platforms from the oldest yet supported version to current and beta released version is required. Intermediate level experience with IBM Sterling Managed File Transfer configuration and ongoing support for static and dynamic routes is required. Intermediate level experience with persistent and non-persistent virtualized desktop technologies to support enterprise scale use. Intermediate level experience with scripting and automation languages particularly Windows and Azure Powershell.



  • Administration and maintenance of server hardware
  • Administration and maintenance of Windows, VMWare ESXi, Citrix, and Linux operating systems including scripting and debugging
  • Detect, diagnose and resolve system issues arising within the system architecture including server hardware, storage hardware, Windows, VMWare ESXi, vCenter, Citrix XenApp Presentation Server, Linux Red Hat operating systems, as well as commercial off the shelf and vendor applications.
  • Provides mentorship and direction through technical subject matter expertise to staff responsible for integration of software and hardware applications.
  • Plan for the future use of Systems hardware and software, services, technologies, applications, and standards and coordinates the purchase, installation and implementation of Systems hardware and software according to department standards and procedures.
  • Drive the documentation and development of network systems architecture, design, and ongoing review of system configurations in collaboration with relevant team members
  • Develop, document and implement operating procedures and participate in training as required
  • Develop and maintain Systems documentation such as gold builds, best practices, knowledgebase, disaster recovery backup and recovery.
  • Provide project management for the large computing projects that cross multiple technologies, platforms and administrative boundaries.
  • Work as liaison between other department managers and supervisors when coordinating support activities and project related tasks
  • Ensure that Systems, and related security standards are adhered to by staff. Review standards periodically with the Security and other IT Managers and implement changes as required.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to junior team members
  • Monitors, diagnoses, configures, enhances system performance within supported parameters to optimize effectiveness of hardware and software resource management.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of state and federal laws and regulations related to credit union compliance including bank secrecy and anti-money laundering laws appropriate to the position.
  • Participate in the "on-call" rotation.
  • Performs other job-related duties as necessary.


  • Effective oral and written communication skills required to train, direct, and evaluate staff, diagnose, correct and log computer projects and problems.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to articulate system methodologies and concepts; communicate effectively in providing technical guidance and expertise to other staff
  • Must possess sufficient manual dexterity to skillfully operate applicable computer hardware, a variety of hand tools and standard office equipment.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or comparable discipline or equivalent work experience.




  • Minimum of nine years' experience in Information Technology in an administrator role
  • Subject matter expert with Windows Server oldest yet supported version to current beta version in an enterprise domain environment
  • Subject matter expert with Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS)
  • Subject matter expert with AD group policies
  • Subject matter expert with PowerShell and scripting processes
  • Subject matter expert with vSphere system administration and support including VMotion, HA, DRS, vCenter Host Profiles, resource pools, Storage and P2V migrations
  • Demonstrates exceptional knowledge with Citrix XenApp Presentation Server administration and support including farm, configuration, and profile management
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge with Linux Red Hat
  • Current Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert with Exchange, or Design electives, and one of the following:
  • VMware Certified Advance Professional
  • Citrix Certified Enterprise Administrator
  • Azure Certification desired
  • Red Hat Certification desired
  • TOGAF desired



  • Prolonged sitting throughout the workday to accomplish tasks.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Lift and carry communications equipment and computer hardware weighing up to fifty pounds.
  • Corrected vision in the normal range required to configure, test, and troubleshoot network server hardware and data.
  • Hearing within normal range.
  • Must possess sufficient manual dexterity to skillfully operate applicable computer hardware, a variety of hand tools and standard office equipment.
  • May work additional work hours to accomplish tasks.



  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required.
  • Current Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert with Exchange, or Design electives
  • VMware Certified Advance Professional or Citrix Certified Enterprise Administrator
